The Algonquin community of Eagle Village will have access to fund aboriginal initiatives

Quebec, April 9, 2010. – Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs, Mr. Pierre Corbeil, signed yesterday with the head of the board of Eagle Village, Constant Jimmy Sr., an agreement establishing the procedure for implementing the Aboriginal Initiatives Fund for this community.Created following the First Nations Socioeconomic Forum in Mashteuiatsh, the fund aims to support economic development in Aboriginal communities in Quebec by favoring the creation or consolidation of jobs.

Thus, projects from the middle and could create significant economic benefits can be financed over the next five years, even a budget of 740 000 dollars.

“I am very pleased that the community of Eagle Village have access to the money that will provide its members with better living conditions, which is a priority for the Secretariat for Aboriginal Affairs,” said Minister Corbeil.

“This agreement will contribute greatly to our socio-economic development to achieve important projects for our community,” said Chief Constant.

The Algonquin community of Eagle Village is located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue. It includes nearly 820 members.
