The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs of Alberta have gathered at their annual fall sitting to elect a new Regional Chief of Treaties 6, 7 & 8 to the Assembly of First Nations

The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs of Alberta has converged on the city of Edmonton, Alberta for their annual fall sitting to discuss common political interests.
Among the discussions, is the election of Regional Chief of Treaty No.6, Treaty No. 7 and Treaty No. 8 in Alberta as the regional representative to the Executive of the Assembly of First Nations.There are five candidates running for the top position which include; (in alphabetical order)
#1) Jason Goodstriker, former Council member of the Blood Tribe
#2) Rose Laboucan, Chief of the Drift Pile First Nation
#3) Lester Nepoose, former Council member of the Samson Cree Nation.
#4) Edwin Small Legs, former Council member of the Piikani Nation
#5) George Stanley, former Chief of Frog Lake Cree Nation.Currently, the Regional Chief’s position is vacant due to the appointment of Wilton Littlechild to the Truth & Reconciliation Commission as a Commissioner.
A press conference will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 3:00PM at the Ramada Inn in the Imperial Ballroom at the Radisson South in Edmonton. Alberta Chiefs will be on hand to speak to the media.
Treaty No.6, Treaty No.7 & Treaty No.8 represents 48 First Nations/Bands and over 100, 000 First Nation members within the Province of Alberta.
