Natural resource indicators, third quarter 2018

Real gross domestic product of the natural resource sector increased 1.0% in the third quarter, largely on the strength of the mineral and mining subsector (+4.1%). Natural resource prices were up 1.9% from July to September, led by energy products (+3.6%).

Impacts of the US government shutdown on the upcoming release of Canadian international merchandise trade data

On December 22, 2018, a partial shutdown of the US federal government came into effect, resulting in the closure of certain government agencies, including the United States Census Bureau. As a result of this disruption, the publication of Canadian international merchandise trade data for the December reference month will not occur as scheduled on February 5, 2019.
