Survey of Household Spending, 2017
In 2017, the average Canadian household spent $63,723 on goods and services, up 2.5% from 2016.
Industrial capacity utilization rates, third quarter 2018
Canadian industries operated at 82.6% of their production capacity in the third quarter, down from 84.1% in the previous quarter. The decline came in the wake of five consecutive quarterly increases.
Spending on research and development, 2018 intentions
Canada’s gross domestic expenditure on research and development (GERD) is expected to edge up 1.3% from the 2017 preliminary estimate to $34.5 billion in 2018. The anticipated increase is attributable to higher research and development (R&D) spending intentions of business enterprises and the higher education sector.
Financial information of community colleges and vocational schools, 2016/2017
Revenue for Canada’s 166 public colleges, CEGEPs, and polytechnics rose from $8.7 billion in 2015/2016 to $8.9 billion in 2016/2017. At the same time, expenditures increased from $8.6 billion in 2015/2016 to $8.8 billion in 2016/2017.
Air fares, second quarter 2018
Base air fares in Canada, domestic and international combined, averaged $221.40 in the second quarter, down 4.0% from the same quarter of 2017 and reversing the upward trend of the previous four quarters. This was the lowest level since the fourth quarter of 2016, when base air fares averaged $220.70.
Maple products, 2018
A cold, harsh winter and a short spring in many parts of the country drove down maple syrup production in Canada in 2018. The harvest fell 21.7% from 2017 to 9.8 million gallons in 2018—the lowest level of production since 2015.
