Aboriginal peoples in Canada: Key results from the 2016 Census
There were 1,673,785 Aboriginal people in Canada in 2016, accounting for 4.9% of the total population. Since 2006, the Aboriginal population has grown by 42.5%—more than four times the growth rate of the non-Aboriginal population over the same period. This growth has been fuelled by higher fertility and changes to self-reported identification over time.

Approximately 1.2 million new immigrants settled in Canada between 2011 and 2016. They contributed to the linguistic, ethnic and cultural diversity of Canada.
Housing in Canada: Key results from the 2016 Census
In 2016, more than two-thirds (67.8%) of households in Canada owned their home. The rate of homeownership has been relatively stable over the last decade. In 2006, the rate was 68.4% and in 2011 it was 69.0%. In contrast, over the period 1991 to 2006, the homeownership rate rose from 62.6% to 68.4%.
