The National Indian Brotherhood (NIB) Trust Fund announces the 2018-2019 successful groups and organizations who have been approved for funding for a wide variety of educational programs and initiatives aimed at supporting healing and reconciliation.

The NIB Trust Fund Board of Trustees has approved approximately $6.5 million in funding to 84 Groups and Organizations who will implement cultural and healing programs to First Nations across Canada. The NIB Trust Fund received over 160 applications from First Nation and Métis organizations, communities, cultural centers and educational institutions. These programs are aimed at revitalizing language, culture and healing and will be delivered at the community, provincial and national levels.

The NIB Trust Fund allocates funds in accordance with the 2007 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement – the largest settlement agreement in Canadian history – which provided compensation to survivors for their experiences at residential schools. Funds are available to First Nation and Métis individuals, governments and organizations as part of healing and reconciliation efforts.

The NIB Trust Fund will release the next call for applications for Groups and Organizations in November 2018. Applicants must be registered with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and have Qualified Donee Status or a Charitable Number. First Nation Band Offices and organizations on-reserve must contact CRA and start their application now to receive their Qualified Donee Status before November 2018 as the process can take up to 6 months. Please visit CRA’s website at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/chrts-gvng/qlfd-dns/mncplpblcbds-eng.html to access information on how to apply and for application criteria.

The individual call for applications is currently open and the deadline is June 8, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
