UCLUELET – The Pacific Rim Arts Society will receive a $2,500 BC150 Community Arts Grant for the First Nations Youth Photography Workshop and Exhibit, Tourism, Sport and the Arts Minister Stan Hagen announced today.“The BC150 Community Arts Grants are bringing B.C.’s rich history to life by funding exciting new art projects,” said Hagen. “These projects will leave a legacy of arts and culture for future audiences to enjoy and connect BC150 celebrations in every corner of the province.”

The BC150 Community Arts Grant program complements BC150 festivities taking place around the province, which are based on five key pillars: heritage, communities, Aboriginal people, cultural diversity, and arts and culture.

The Pacific Rim Arts Society is working in collaboration with the First Nations Youth Photography Club to sponsor a workshop where First Nations youth, ages 13 to 24, can learn to matte, mount and frame their own photos and prepare their work for exhibition. Their collection of photographs will be unveiled at the annual Art in the Garden fall juried art show in Tofino. The First Nations Youth Photography Club is a project of Make it Happen Society with a mandate of nurturing youth and community capacities.

BC150 Community Arts Grants fund projects spanning a variety of disciplines, including visual art exhibitions, dance, musical or theatre productions, publication projects and media arts projects. The grants provide a maximum of $10,000 and up to 75 per cent of total project costs and are administered through the Assembly of BC Arts Councils.

This year, B.C. is celebrating BC150, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia in 1858. Every community in B.C. is invited to participate in this year-long celebration of the province’s cultural diversity, community strength and widespread achievement.
