University of Regina Aboriginal Student Centre – Aboriginal Student Centre To Host Tipi Raising

The University of Regina Aboriginal Student Centre will host its 2nd Annual Tipi Raising Competition on Friday, September 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Dr. Lloyd Barber Academic Green at the U of R main campus.The Tipi Raising Competition provides students and staff the opportunity to experience constructing a tipi and learn about its cultural significance to Aboriginal peoples.

Community schools and organizations are welcome to attend and compete. An instructional session begins at 9:30 a.m. and the first round of competition begins at 10:00 a.m. Competition rounds will begin every half hour, giving teams of four the opportunity to raise a tipi within 20 minutes. Lunch is provided for competitors and volunteers.

There is no cost to attend or compete. Competition categories include student, women, and general. Prize money will be awarded to the top three teams in each category. Community schools or organizations are asked to register before Wednesday, September 23.
