The 9th annual Valentine’s Day Memorial Walk for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women will begin at Thunder Bay city hall.
Tuesday’s events begin in the lobby at 1 p.m., with Coun. Larry Hebert representing the city, Coun. Michele Solomon representing Fort William First Nation, Deputy Grand Chief Anna Betty Achneepineskum from Nishnawbe Aski Nation, Thunder Bay Police Chief JP Levesque, Ontario Native Women’s Association executive director Cora-Lee McGuire-Cyrette and event founder and organizer Sharon Johnson.
The walk is being held to bring together families of missing and murdered indigenous women to acknowledge their loss, to support them in their grief and to educate the public about this as an issue,” the city says in a statement.
Following the opening event, the walk will proceed to the Heritage Building at the CLE grounds for a ceremony to honour the families who have lost loved ones.
