Alberta teen hopes to inspire up-and-coming Indigenous models
If you could travel one month back in time, where would you be?
For Samuel Thomas Lecuyer, he’d be flying across the ocean in order to walk the runway at Paris Fashion Week 2020, one of the most prestigious fashion events on the planet.
“It feels crazy to think I was travelling in Europe just a few weeks ago,” the 19-year-old said, when asked to reflect on his life before the coronavirus pandemic.
The Indigenous teen from Airdrie, Alta., was invited to France at the end of February to walk the runway for a Japanese label called Hamon.
Although Paris Fashion Week organizers were unable to confirm this fact, Samuel said he might be the first Indigenous male model to ever participate in the event.
