McGuinty Government Works With First Nation To Promote Economic Opportunities
THUNDER BAY – A plan for the development of the waterfront on a Northwestern Ontario First Nation will be completed with assistance from the Ontario government. The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) will provide $20,000 to the Iskatewizaagegan # 39 Independent Nation (formerly known as Shoal Lake #39 First Nation) to finalize a waterfront development plan. Members of the community will consider a number of options, including the establishment of a recreational vehicle park, the development of cottage lots, the development of condominiums and other commercial opportunities.
“We are working with First Nations to create a better future for all community members,” said Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle, who also chairs the NOHFC. “This study will help determine prospects that might be pursued while respecting community concerns.”
This initiative is part of the government’s Northern Prosperity Plan for building stronger northern communities. Learn more about the plan at: http://www.mndm.gov.on.ca/mndm/npp_e.asp or visit http://www.nohfc.com for more information on the NOHFC.
