Oct. 4, 2017 – Lethbridge College is pleased host a number of ongoing and special events on campus in the coming weeks.

Indigenous Services monthly talking circle

· This event, involving local Elders, creates a safe and supportive environment for students to talk about issues affecting them. Meet in the Niitsitapi Gathering Place (AN1501).

Fresh produce available on campus

· The Aquaculture Centre of Excellence has grown basil, microgreens, lettuce and kale that you can now take home to your own kitchen. The produce is available for sale beginning at noon on Fridays in Centre Core.

Indigenous Day: Celebrating our Pride, History and Knowledge

· Opening ceremonies, 10 a.m.: As Lethbridge College is located on the traditional land of the Blackfoot people, a momentous part of this year’s opening ceremonies will be Lethbridge College receiving a Blackfoot name. Guided by our Blackfoot Kaahsinnooniiks (Grandparents) and community members, we are moving together respectfully to a greater knowledge and understanding of Blackfoot ways of knowing. It is Lethbridge College’s honour to invite the community as our place of learning receives a Blackfoot Name. The naming ceremony will be part of the opening ceremonies.

· The day’s schedule of events will provide a line-up of both traditional and contemporary entertainment, including powwow drumming and dancing performances, Métis fiddling and jigging, a hand drum contest and a taste of culture as well as arts, crafts and community exhibits. · Join us at one of our mature student information sessions designed for anyone who has taken one or more years away from school. During these sessions, you’ll get the answers you need to make the right decision about college for you. We’ll discuss program opportunities and delivery options, such as on-campus versus online, as well as financial and student awards, residence life, and the many more student services offered. We’ll also go over the application process, and provide all the information you need to start on the path to becoming a student at Lethbridge College.

Ongoing events

Learning Café workshops for students

· The Learning Cafe offers a variety of study skills workshops, academic tutorials, & classroom presentations to help students develop the learning skills & strategies they need to be successful in their courses. Information about future workshops can be found online.

Evening dining in the Garden Court Restaurant

· Food lovers are invited to book a table at the Garden Court for evening dining in October. Dinner will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 17 to 26. For reservations, please call 403-320-3230.

Student massage clinic

· The student massage clinic will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. More information is available online. To book your appointment, call Bonnie at 403-329-7274.

College Cruisin’ now through December

· Teachers and students are invited to explore their choice of over 50 programs. We create a custom schedule based on the students’ interest and explore through hands-on learning what it takes to be a Lethbridge College student. Lunch and transport are provided. Email the college for more details.

Student for a day – October and November

· Our student for a day program helps high school students decide which program is right for them. We pair them up with a current student in the program of their choice and they attend classes for the day. We even provide lunch! Sign up and get more information online.

Indigenous display in Founders’ Square now through January

· Stop by Founders’ Square by the Food Court and check out the Indigenous display on loan from the Galt Museum. The newly renovated space on campus also tells the story of Lethbridge College’s history and celebrates the college’s rich Indigenous history. All are welcome.

Student recipe contest

· Multiple Lethbridge College departments have teamed up to offer a new contest for students to submit their favourite breakfast recipes to win a prize of $100 in gift cards ($50 to Tim’s and $50 to Safeway). The recipes must be for breakfast and will be judged based on cost, time and labour involved, and taste. Our Culinary instructors will help select the winner. If possible, the recipe will then be used for one of the Wellness Wednesday breakfasts offered by the LCSA. This new initiative has been organized by colleagues in Student Services, Student Awards and Financial Aid, LCSA and Culinary. The deadline for entries is Oct. 27.

Entrepreneur workshops

· The Teconnect+ED Program of the Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta (RINSA) is pleased to bring you a two-part series of workshops that will elevate your business idea to be market ready. Are you an entrepreneur currently working on a business idea with an understanding of basic startup concepts? This is a must attend series of training workshops just for you. Participants with an idea or prototype who have not reached the point of sales or revenue will experience the greatest benefit from this program. These free workshops are open to students and the general public. Everyone welcome is welcome but space is limited so register early! Part One is offered Oct. 12, 19, 26 and Nov. 2.
