1491: Reimagine Thanksgiving
Come join us for FREE at the Gabriola Island Community Hall for a evening of protocol, artistic sparks and feast as part of the Breaking Bannock series presented by the Gabriola Arts Council
For MOD: Abriged, Fox Queen will commission 4 Core Artists (1 Indigenous/ 2 Europeoan Settler / 1 Chinesee National Settler) to generate artistic ‘sparks’ of creative output in response to the community workshop held on Sept 22, 2024, alongside Gabriola Island Community Participants.
What is an artistic spark?
The commissions will combat anti-Indigenous hate, draw personal experiences of historical injustice, honour survivors, and create intergenerational healing through community. The theatrical responses, specifically foregrounding Indigenous voices, are shared in a free public and live-streamed event on the traditional territory of the Kwakiutl First Nations.
The Sharing and Feast
Audience members attend free of charge, experience the professional artistic responses, Indigenous protocol and shared feasting. Join us for a public feast, artist presentations from Scarlet Chen, Talela Manson, and The Fox Queen, and our community’s artistic responses to the Messages on Doors online workshop.
