One of the mysteries for emerging filmmakers (creators, writers, producers, and directors, actors….) is: how does a film and TV project actually get made in Canada?
To those who have been around and trying to fund projects in Canada for a while, this process is quite obvious as there are only so many ways to do it here (versus the multitude of ways in the US) and one can practically learn by osmosis (i.e., spending time in the industry).
Recently, I’ve met a number of people in Canada who aspire to make a feature film or TV project but don’t have any idea how to start (i.e., where the money comes from). Thus, on Saturday, August 3rd from 10am to 12pm, I will present a roadmap for how:
*Feature film
*Episodic
*Animated series
*typically* get made when initiated from Canada.
Forget the theory you may have read online about letters of interest and etc. Most of what you’ll find online is written by those in the US market. Canada is a little different in that there is a high reliance of market triggers, grants, development and soft money.
In this presentation, we’ll talk about funders, soft money, and presales (broadcaster, distributor, i.e., buyers) and how to find and approach them. We’ll talk a little about pitch packages as well. And we’ll talk about co-productions and private financing (but not in depth).
And yes, there will be time for Q&A as I’m sure there will be a lot of questions. If you already have questions, feel free to email them to me at info@nextmovestudios.comNOSPAM in advance or ask them during the session.
