Indigenous History and Heritage Gathering
Indigenous History and Heritage Gathering
June 5-7, 2023 – Shaw Centre, Ottawa
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and the First Nations Confederacy of Cultural Education Centres (FNCCEC) are proud to host the Indigenous History and Heritage Gathering (IHHG). This gathering, presented through the gracious support of Know History, is one of the many important events held during Indigenous History Month. It brings together diverse groups who are working to amplify the distinct stories of Indigenous Peoples.
Thought leaders from across Turtle Island, including Kimberly Murray and Tanya Talaga, will discuss how Indigenous histories can be researched, preserved, and shared. The gathering provides a space for dialogue between Indigenous and non-Indigenous professionals and community members.
IHHG is organized around four key streams:
• Historic Claims
• Residential and Day Schools
• Place and Naming
• Language and Culture
