About this event
Roots on Six (formerly known as Roots of Resilience) is a communal space and a digital storytelling platform that showcases the resilience of multigenerational Indigenous, refugee and newcomer communities on Treaty Six lands. Our mission is to provide a space where diverse stories can be shared, celebrated and preserved, fostering a deeper understanding between Indigenous and newcomer communities.
This initiative began with the convergence of World Refugee Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day – two events we’ve been commemorating in Edmonton simultaneously for years – and became a multi-year collaboration between IslamicFamily, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Catholic Social Services, the Newcomer Centre, the Mennonite Central Committee and the City of Edmonton. In 2024, the Francophonie Albertaine Plurielle (FRAP) also became one of our collaborators.
