Join Indigenous storyteller Jim Adams as he shares stories about Indigenous plant knowledge and how the retelling of these stories is helping to heal Indigenous people living on Turtle Island. Jim Adams is of mixed Indigenous and settler heritage. He who seeks to make sense of the world through the use of story, music and movement. The land informs his practice and feeds both his spirit and his creativity, and provides healing and nourishment for his body and mind. Jim has a BFA, MFA, and M.Ed in Urban Indigenous Education. His greatest teachers and most profound understandings have come from relationships he has had with traditional knowledge keepers, elders and his own children.This program is part of Toronto Public Library's Indigenous Celebrations series. This first international post COVID -19 conference strives to bring together global experts from different global communities to explore what needs to be done differently, and prepare the global community to respond to future global shocks and emergencies in a unified well-coordinated effort. The conference will be a platform to discuss policies that facilitate mobilization and distribution of resources, addresses social and structural inequities/inequalities in the world, and investment in human resource capital development. Additionally, the conference will permit experts to decipher their thoughts to find solutions to strengthen health infrastructure, enhance the distribution of medicines, propose a sustainable pandemic financing, and harmonized pandemic and emergency communication, and equitable diffusion of technological innovations, among others.Specific Objectives for this Conference
  • To convene a global knowledge exchange platform.
  • To identify existing pandemic and crisis response gaps between global south and global north.
  • To highlight and recommend action of removing structural barriers.
  • Situate concerns of women, youth and the elderly in the policies for future pandemic and global shock responses.
Conference Deliverables
  • The Toronto Global Consensus (TGC) - will highlight the specifics of unified global pandemic responses and steps and timelines needed to achieve these objectives.
  • Publication of the conference proceedings to be made available to governments, civil society organizations, international organizations, universities and colleges, private sector actors, and authorities in health.
