The Anishinabek Nation is seeking a highly motivated, organized and results oriented individual to work as the Human Resources Coordinator for the Anishinabek Educational Institute (AEI) and its affiliate corporations. Receiving direction from the Director of Education, the Human Resources Coordinator will assist in the planning, organizing, controlling, and evaluation of human resource activities for the Anishinabek Educational Institute.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary Human Resources-related Degree/Diploma/Certificate;
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in human resources;
  • Member of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario would be an asset;
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal labour standards;
  • Experience working with a First Nation organization;
  • Ability to work remotely with reliable internet access;
  • Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin or willingness to learn is an asset; and
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and be insurable.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Conflict management, negotiation and resolution skills;
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Experience preparing briefing notes, reports, memorandums, and policies;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat);
  • Understanding of Anishinabek culture is an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with the departments Pandemic Response efforts;
  • In collaboration with the Director of Education, assisting with staff and instructor recruitment, onboarding, and performance management processes for AEI staff;
  • Responding to AEI human resources related inquiries or requests;
  • Coordinating training sessions for AEI staff, as directed;
  • Conducting research on current provincial and federal legislation to ensure the institute continues to operate within it and reporting on findings;
  • Provide recommended updates to the Director of Education as required to relevant policies institute policies, directives, guides, forms and, job descriptions, etc.;
  • Maintaining records, filing, preparing memos and formatting reports;
  • Assisting with the implementation of AEI organizational policies;
  • Supporting the coordination of AEI Human Resources projects;
  • Providing general administrative support such as coordinating meetings, note-taking, drafting and reviewing correspondence and contracts, memorandums, etc.;
  • Maintaining compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and all workplace health and safety policies, programs and practices for AEI staff; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
