Shkaabe Makwa is a Centre for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Wellness at CAMH that supports culturally relevant systems initiatives to achieve health equity and community wellness in collaboration with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities and service providers across Ontario. Through the implementation of wise practices, evidence-based models, trauma-informed interventions, and the advancement of research, Shkaabe Makwa strives to transform health outcomes which harmonize traditional knowledge and medical expertise.
Shkaabe Makwa is seeking a First Nation, Inuit or Métis person for a full-time, permanent position as the Education Specialist. Reporting to the Manager of Workforce Development, the Education Specialist will support the development of high quality, culturally informed mental health and addiction training resources for First Nations, Inuit and Métis direct service providers. The successful candidate will develop training resources, manuals, facilitator guides, participant handouts and support the development of an online learning management system.
Responsibilities of this position include writing and editing content for training resources, online training modules and interactive learning activities which are culturally informed and support mental health clinical practice. This will involve collaborating with other team members, community experts, internal and external community partners and stakeholders to disseminate existing and future training curriculums into engaging training resources and online content. The Education Specialist will also contribute to provincially-directed or community-initiated systems work, knowledge exchange and research activities. This position is located in Toronto and may require travel throughout Ontario, including remote First Nations communities.
This position requires the incumbent to be First Nations, Inuit or Métis. The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Health Sciences or related field. The candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in the mental health and substance use and/or Indigenous adult education field.
Demonstrated ability to read, understand and analyze grey literature and summarize relevant evidence to a non-academic audience is required. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. Experience in online course content development, integrated Indigenous adult learning principles, writing and editing is required. Proficiency with technology and software including Microsoft Office and Moodle are required.
Other requirements include a thorough understanding of principles and practices of Indigenous engagement along with demonstrated community connections. The incumbent will also demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, diplomacy and tact.
Excellent planning and time management skills, with ability to multi-task, produce and coordinate projects to tight deadlines. Experience developing and maintaining partnerships and networks of significant numbers of internal and external partners. Knowledge of copyright legislation, APA style rules and copyright issues.
Bilingualism in French/English or an Indigenous language would be an asset. This position may require travel throughout Ontario, including remote First Nations communities.

Salary Range: $33.59 – $45.31 per hour
