Position Summary

In accordance with Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code and Section 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, preference will be given to qualified candidates with Aboriginal Ancestry

Through an Aboriginal Mental Wellness Plan Interior Health (IH) is committed to improving the mental health and wellness of Aboriginal peoples. This position will focus on educational initiatives related to Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) and the Aboriginal Mental Wellness Plan.

Under the direction of the Manager, Aboriginal Mental Wellness, and in collaboration with MHSU Program Directors, the Knowledge Coordinator promotes consistent development, application, delivery and integration of evidence-based knowledge services area by:

• identifying effective delivery methods, technology and venues for required education and knowledge transfer;
• implementing knowledge transfer methods and techniques and supporting their use by staff (and others); and
• evaluating the effectiveness of knowledge services initiatives and evaluating/reviewing the learning needs of staff (and others).

The Knowledge Coordinator-Operations utilizes adult teaching /learning and change management principles and acts as a resource to front line staff and others by providing guidance and support in relation to education/knowledge transfer methods, technologies, best practices and initiatives within the assigned HCIS Operations area.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promotes the attainment and delivery of established education, knowledge transfer and evaluation goals for the assigned area.
• Provides expertise in evidence-based knowledge services to front line staff, Team Leaders and Operation Managers by collaborating with members of the front line interdisciplinary team, and evaluating clinical practice to ensure compliance with established policies, standards and procedures. Provides feedback to Manager, Knowledge Services and Program Directors (or delegates).
• Collaborates with the Manager, Knowledge Services and Community Area Directors to ensure that systems of continuous learning are in place to provide staff with the opportunity to remain current with best practices in accordance with applicable standards and service requirements
• Orients new staff to their role by familiarizing the staff with the established policies, standards, procedures, and education/knowledge transfer resources. Utilizes educational resources such as self assessment and teaching modules in order to ensure staff (and others) are able to demonstrate the integration of knowledge, skill and ability.
• Responds to education and knowledge transfer issues in a supportive and goal oriented manner, facilitating communication to affect positive outcomes. Empowers staff (and others) to assume responsibility for educational and knowledge transfer activities through coaching, facilitation and support.
• Assists with the implementation of new policies/practice standards and education/knowledge transfer initiatives and materials developed through ‘Programming’ (Program Directors and Practice Leads).
• Participates in Quality Improvement processes, meetings and committee work as directed to meet organizational goals and strategic directives.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

• Completion of a Master’s degree in a HCIS program related field from a recognized institution in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position.
• Three (3) years’ recent related experience in the assigned HCIS Program/Operations area AND
• two(2) years’ formal experience in adult teaching/learning, curriculum development, teaching, providing in services or staff development function; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Current registration with the applicable College (OT/PT/SLP/etc)
• Current valid BC driver’s license.

Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.
Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice: Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
Leadership: Promotes staff morale, engagement and empowerment. Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovation, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
