The Library Technician coordinates the interlibrary loan/document delivery service for the organization. Duties include:

• Coordinates all requests for information resources and materials;
• Assists with the standardization of clinical documents and related information resources;
• Users – assists with orienting them to library resources, instructing them in the use of electronic databases and information search tools, and organizing and delivering established individual and group information sessions;
• Provides support for user inquiries such as library and related software and resources;
• Assists with ongoing needs assessments and marketing;
• Verifies citations, locates and retrieves materials from Interior Health paper and electronic collections;
• Utilizes computer-based interlibrary loan networks to locate and arrange the borrowing and lending of books, journal articles and other information resources not otherwise available;
• Orders and receives journals, new books and related ephemeral materials by completing appropriate purchase requests and order forms;
• Sets up information alerts, and assists clients to set up information alerts independently;
• Catalogues newly acquired materials, inputs data into library catalogue software, processes catalogued items for circulation;
• Library physical collection – lending and receiving library materials; identifying, following up and retrieving overdue materials; receiving, checking in and claiming new journal issues supporting all borrowing and returning functions;
• Clerical/Receptionist Duties – processing invoices and cheque requisitions, ordering and maintaining inventory of office supplies for the library, basic technology troubleshooting, answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages, answering routine inquiries, and opening and sorting mail;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday – 09:00 to 17:00

Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 12,
• Completion of a two-year Library Technician diploma program,
• Two year’s recent related experience, Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Skills and Abilities:
• Familiarity with the current technological environment in libraries.
• Knowledge of library software such as Interlibrary Loans and Library Cataloguing.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to operate related equipment including related computerized software.
