Position Summary

The Cottonwoods Care Centre is seeking Long-term Care Attendanta to join their team! The ideal candidates have completed a health care assistant program, current registration with the BC Care Aide Registry, and a passion for providing patient-centered care.

Cottonwoods Care Centre is a 213 bed, one-storey building centrally located on Ethel Street in beautiful Kelowna, BC. The original building was completed in 1976, and in 1984 an addition was completed bringing the facility to its current state occupying 156,080 square feet. The Aberdeen Unit has 60 Short Stay beds including 1 respite bed. Bridgeway is our special populations unit comprised of 27 beds – typical clients are younger adults. The Cadder Court and Driftwood Units have 42 beds respectively. The Ethel Glen Unit is a secured dementia unit with 42 beds including one respite bed. The building also houses our Gerontology Centre, where geriatric clients are referred for consultation with an interdisciplinary team including our in-house geriatrician.

As the Long-term Care Attendant (LTCA) you will work as an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, who provide care and support in a long-term care setting. Working under the direction of RN’s and LPN’s, LTCA’s have key responsibilities in the individual care plan for each resident, ensuring their physical, emotional and social needs are supported, while promoting maximum independence.

We currently have a SEVERAL temporary Part Time opportunities on the team including:

  • 0.78 FTE rotating day/evening shifts (0700-1400 and 1500 to 2130)
  • 0.83 FTE rotating day/evening shifts (0700-1400 and 1500 to 2130)
  • 0.78 rotating day shift (0700 to 1330)

All positions will continue until the incumbents return to their lines. In the meantime, if the temporary position extends longer than 6 months the successful candidate will be eligible for employer paid benefits for the remainder of the position!

Typical duties include:

  • Assist with personal care and activities of daily living
  • Assist with mobility, transfers and related equipment
  • Perform nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration
  • Housekeeping activities relating to maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Observe and report changes in resident behavior and condition
  • Accompany clients on outings and during social activities
  • Perform clerical duties and delegated tasks

Qualifications

  • Grade 10
  • Graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant / Health Care Aide Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker registry (please include your active number)
