MANAGER, COMMUNITY & TENANT AFFAIRS :
($74,900 – $88,118 – Annually)
Reporting to the Director, Community and Stakeholder Engagement, the Manager, Community and Tenant Affairs is responsible for the development and implementation of communication and engagement strategies and initiatives that mitigate issues, increases awareness, and build relationships to support BC Housing in developing, protecting and maintaining affordable and supportive housing in British Columbia. She/He/They provide strategic advice and oversight to the development and implementation of communications and engagement initiatives relating to major new development, redevelopment and/or renovation projects, as well as new or enhanced BC Housing programs or services. She/He/They are also responsible for creating and implementing tenant communications strategies to support change management initiatives. The incumbent provides leadership to a team of staff and, as a member of the Communications and Public Affairs leadership team, provides strategic advice on a range of issues impacting business and operating strategies. The Manager oversees project teams and contractors, and maintains strong working relationships with local governments, non-profit partners and community stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications public administration, public relations or other relevant discipline.
- Considerable experience in a communications and public affairs environment, with specific experience in media relations, community relations, community engagement, issues management and public affairs.
- Considerable experience working with diverse communities and audiences, including with communities that have experienced marginalization.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Employer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of the philosophies, processes, practices and techniques of community outreach and public engagement, communications planning and program implementation, issues management and media relations.
- Considerable knowledge of the residential construction sector and ability to learn the Commission’s organization, programs and services and of related legislation and policies. Strong analytical, problem solving, decision-making, project management and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, interpersonal and mediation skills. Ability to develop plans, strategies and programs and provide advice and counsel to management and staff in a deadline oriented, high profile and demanding environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and creatively, both orally and in writing with the ability to develop innovative ideas and solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple programs, issues and projects, coordinate work with others, keep the executive and senior management apprised of major issues and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, agencies and contractors in planning and implementing initiatives, providing strategic communications advice, and facilitating problem solving in achieving results.
- Ability to lead, coach and motivate staff in a team setting.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of current trends and best practices in communications and public engagement relevant to complex organizations.
- Ability to manage a heavy workload that typically requires working beyond regular office hours.
- Ability to support media inquiries and action emerging issues in the evenings and over the weekend (on-call basis).
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) and social media platforms.
