The incumbent has specific accountability to support an Indigenous focused recovery program. The Creating Safe Environments (CSE) approach focuses on addressing risks related to disasters, violence and health through strengthening community based and led actions that promote resilience and self determination for Indigenous people. The CSE approach recognizes the unique and dynamic nature of each community.
In this role, you will:
- Contribute to CSE Recovery program design including program scope, objectives, standards, goals and deliverables.
- Manage the planning, budget and reporting requirements for the CSE Recovery program, in close working collaboration with the National Grants Team and the BC IP Senior Manager.
- Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones.
- Work with others to determine the frequency and content of internal reporting and leads on completing reporting requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance for personnel in implementing services reflecting adherence to the guiding principles of the CRC Indigenous Peoples Framework.
- Work closely with the Senior Manager to support government and external relations on matters relevant to CSE Recovery programming.
- In collaboration with the larger recovery team, ensure that there is strategic and equitable access to CRC services and programs.
- Ensure cultural safety guides the approach to our work and the design of programs.
- Attend appropriate coordination and planning tables at regional levels and, when appropriate, provincial tables.
- In close collaboration with the BC leadership and teams, ensure that the Red Cross is appropriately represented at key meetings and events where Indigenous communities are present.
- Develop and/or maintain strong working relationships with, but not limited to: Indigenous community leadership structures, community serving organizations, local municipalities connected with the Indigenous Flood and Fires impacted populations, relevant Friendship Centres and other Indigenous led organizations, and key community contacts from impacted areas.
- Monitor and support delivery (including delegation of tasks and responsibilities) of the field team’s implementation of CRC activities.
- Collaborate with national and geographic leadership to evaluate the quality of service delivery and make recommendations to adjust plans to optimize results that benefit partnering communities.
- Train and mentor staff and volunteers in implementing the community engagement toolkit, as well as providing subject matter expertise in the areas of risk reduction, violence prevention and injury prevention.
What we are looking for:
- The minimum qualifications for this job are a university degree, and six to ten years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience including working with Indigenous communities.
- The ideal candidate has lived and/or has professional experience with First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis Nations or communities.
- Active in broader Indigenous networks and has an enduring commitment to sharing and advancing knowledge derived through Indigenous knowledge systems including balancing Western and Indigenous world views.
- The official languages recognized within the Canadian Red Cross are English and French; however demonstrated skills and ability to communicate in one or multiple Indigenous language(s) or ability to communicate and adapt within Indigenous protocols is highly desirable.
- A valid driver’s license is required with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Experience in building volunteer, community, and government partnerships with specific reference to working with Indigenous communities.
- Proven program, facility, human resource (volunteers and staff), and financial management experience in a complex environment essential.
- Expertise in Indigenous programming is required.
- Experience in working with a diverse population and an understanding of cultural issues.
- Strong facilitator including virtual modalities.
- Team leadership.
Working conditions:
- Travel will be required based on the needs through BC region.
