The incumbent will manage, advise and support local program personnel in the development of strong cohesive teams who are ready to respond to Level 1 and 2 operations. In collaboration with the Senior Manager and Director, EM the Regional Manager assists in disaster planning and preparations alongside indigenous communities, government partners and agencies and is a key interlocutor in the CRC’s role in health emergencies, agreement building, and maintaining strong relationships at provincial, regional, and local levels as assigned.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the completion of local work plans annually that ensure the operational plan is implemented in the designated area.
  • Ability to manage and work within an unionized environment.
  • Monitor service delivery and identifies gaps in Site Management and ESS services, paying close attention to agreement areas, Indigenous Communities, asylum seekers and other groups as required;
  • Identifies and pursues key relationships with indigenous communities and partners to support community resiliency, response readiness and define CRC support in times of disaster or emergency;
  • Participate in the operational planning process.
  • Participate in the development of the Emergency Management budget in Ontario budget based on local activities.
  • Participate in planning related to field staffing needs based on national, program standards, objectives and hazard and risk map.
  • Monitor performance against agreed upon staff performance objectives and recommend any corrective action to supervisor monthly.
  • Support and rationalize volunteer team workforce planning activities with field staff.
  • Lead all new field staff orientations to CRC, Emergency Management and Ontario processes.
  • Develop, in consultation with program leads and others, a government relations approach for the north
  • Lead the negotiations of agreements with local governments.
  • Available to support on-call rotation duties.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of study.
  • 5-10 years of job-related work experience in emergency management.
  • Experience in planning and evaluation, performance management or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a field related to emergency management
  • Experience managing staff and volunteers.
  • A proven track record of working with diverse populations, and multicultural and Indigenous settings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to use MS office and provide ongoing leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to interact effectively and build ongoing relationships with diverse groups of volunteers, staff and stakeholders.
  • Strong adaptability and results driven initiative.

Working conditions:

  • Duties are principally conducted remotely at this time; however, travel to other regions in Ontario is anticipated. The job will require working non-traditional hours and the performance of on-call duty as needed.
  • Most of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable; field assignments can involve working in environments that are unstable and with unpredictable access to basic services.
