Managing Director, Eastern Canada
We are looking for a Managing Director, Eastern Canada to bring passion, creativity and energy to a thriving, prolific business unit. The Managing Director will join our mission to attract, assess and hire the best executive talent for our clients and will exemplify our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. They will have the leadership qualities to respectfully influence the executive hiring practices within businesses, large and small, Indigenous organizations, governments, public institutions, NGOs and non-profits. The Managing Director will professionally represent Leaders International in a variety of business and community settings in order to develop new business and maintain long- term professional relations and will represent our clients to facilitate discussions with a wide range of interest groups.
Guiding a team throughout the search process, across all industries and across Eastern Canada, the Managing Director will ensure each project is delivered with care, confidentiality and expediency. An exceptional communicator, this individual will create talent strategies and drive the full end-to-end executive recruitment process including business development and networking, client management, search strategy development, written communications, candidate assessments, offer negotiations, and executive onboarding facilitation.
Take a leadership role in growing the Leaders International brand and reputation as the representative of the Indigenous and diversity search practice
Attract new clients and projects and follow through on professional commitments to exceed client expectations
Represent Leaders International in professional settings and presentations including for clients, business and community groups and at community and industry events, as appropriate
Provide strategic direction and counsel to Boards, executives, hiring committees and senior human resources professionals regarding recruiting trends, concerns and possibilities for executive hiring and ensure a positive client experience
Engage with clients, committees and interest groups to understand the context, priorities and challenges for successful candidates/executive hires; Facilitate discussions and report outcomes on behalf of clients
Lead and be accountable for end-to-end executive search recruitment; Lead a team to provide in-depth recruiting strategies, professional written materials, thorough candidate assessments, metrics and market intelligence for client committees
Manage and lead many executive recruiting projects at one time; Oversee administrative and project teams to ensure thorough and professional management of project administration, research, document production and client/candidate logistics and reporting
Uphold the values of integrity, service, responsibility, diversity and teamwork
Develop and maintain a strong rapport with staff and uphold the principles of a respectful workplace even through a remote work environment
Provide guidance and feedback to staff as appropriate and support the annual performance review process
Lead all projects and external relations with awareness of and sensitivity to appropriate protocols for diverse client groups
Manage a thoughtful candidate engagement experience, treating every candidate with respect and care; Ensure the presentation of high-quality executive candidates in accordance with the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and to meet client goals and objectives
Build trust with both active and passive candidates with instinctual sourcing and market research skills
Manage and conduct thorough interviews and oversee the candidate due diligence process including candidate assessments, references and background checks
Support clients to construct and negotiate complex executive offer packages and facilitate the executive onboarding experience to set the new hires up for success Conduct appropriate follow-up with clients and hired candidates to ensure positive outcomes and client satisfaction
The successful candidate is a motivated self-starter who works equally well independently or within a team environment. They possess strong leadership skills along with the following key attributes and qualifications:
A post-secondary education in business, commerce, administration or communications and at least 8-10 years’ experience in a business and/ or a relevant professional environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Lived experience and personal knowledge of Indigenous cultures and ways of being; Direct experience working with Indigenous communities
Highly personable with exceptional communication skills; Strong writing and presentation skills and an ability to listen and interpret accurately any shared information from clients, candidates and communities of interest
Motivation to increase the presence and contribution of Indigenous peoples and diverse talent to the Canadian business landscape; An understanding of the economic, legal, social and educational barriers that persist and impact professional pathways for Indigenous peoples
Tact, curiosity and agility to learn and adapt to diverse and complex situations Exceptional time management abilities; Adaptable to changing workloads and priorities
Meticulous organizational skills and a drive for the successful completion of projects and client satisfaction
Proven ability to work with a diverse team in a positive and collaborative way Familiarity with Canadian labour and employment laws would be an asset
In-house recruitment and/or executive search firm experience would be an asset Fluency in English is required; Additionally, French and Indigenous languages would be an asset
Ability to work safely from home on a regular basis and travel frequently for work; This includes having a valid driver’s license and being able to meet Transport Canada travel requirements and Health Canada’s vaccination protocols
