Position Summary

Night-shift Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) opportunity available now at the Kelowna General Hospital!

The KGH Laboratory is our largest and most highly specialized 24/7 lab and progressive teaching facility. The Lab employs more than 200 people including generalist and specialist Lab Assistants, Med Lab Technologists, department Specialists, Scientists and Pathologists. Our dedicated Lab professionals work collaboratively in the disciplines of Accession, Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services, Histology and Microbiology.

The Medical Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties such as taking blood and specimen samples from patients, preparing blood and other specimens for analysis, performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing related clerical duties. Performs ECG testing as required.

This is a relief (temporary) 0.73fte opportunity. Days of work are rotating and shift times are nights only: 23:00 to 07:00 and 23:30 to 07:30.

Qualifications

Grade 12
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program
One year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Valid BC Driver’s License as required
Ability to type 25 WPM *please upload a copy of an invigilated/supervised typing test dated within the last 48mths. Please note we do not accept self-administered online tests*
