Position Summary
We are looking for a Casual Laboratory Technologist to join the laboratory team at the Elk Valley Hospital based in picturesque Fernie, BC!
As the Laboratory Technologist you will work autonomously within our supportive and cohesive team environment, providing vital Lab services to both inpatients and outpatient clients from the community. This is a generalist Core Lab position and offers an excellent opportunity to hone independent practice and self-direction within our small and varied laboratory – basic chemistry, transfusion medicine, hematology and blood bank.
Typical duties include: routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments, greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), validating/reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents
This is a casual position, which means hours are not guaranteed and days of work and times may vary according to the needs of the department.
Community: Fernie is a charming, historic city in the mountains with a welcoming community of 4800 residents. Outdoor recreation is a way of life all year round with a network of trails for hiking and biking; the Elk River offering fly-fishing and rafting and the Fernie Alpine Resort offers easy access to winter sports. Downtown Fernie is a combination of historic and contemporary buildings and offers something for everyone with cultural attractions, boutiques, eateries and coffee shops.
Qualifications
• Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program
• Current certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and eligible for membership with the BC Society of Laboratory Sciences (BCSLS) and/or CSMLS
• One (1) year recent related experience
