Position Summary

The Vernon Health Centre is recruiting a Project Part Time (0.60FTE) Medical Transcriptionist to join their team. If you hold a Certificate in Medical Transcription, plus one (1) year of recent related experience, and a current Typing Test 60 wpm or greater (within the last 48 months)….Apply today!

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Services Supervisor, and reporting to the Administrative Services Coordinator, the Medical Transcriptionist types and transcribes dictated reports from recording devices and provides administrative support services for Mental Health & Substance Use Services and/or Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services.

Duties may include:
• Types, transcribes and edits dictated reports, clinical notes, forms, assessments, letters, etc. using approved transcription and speech recognition software.
• Ensures content, grammar, punctuation and format are correct by clarifying inconsistencies with the dictating physician, reviewing reference material and/or referring to the Administrative Services Supervisor or designate.
• Verifies and confirms the report information against transcribed report and/or health care information system and matches with the correct visit in the patient registry, refers discrepancies to the Administrative Services Supervisor or designate according to standard procedures.
• Ensures client record security and confidential handling of same.
• Performs administrative duties such as retrieval of requisitions and distribution of transcribed reports.
• Performs basic trouble-shooting for dictation/transcription/speech recognition software systems, according to established policies.
• Provides filing, faxing, and photocopy services in support of office operations.
• Operates office equipment such as computers, multifunction devices, photocopiers, printers, fax machines and shredders.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Hours of work: Tuesday – Thursday, 08:30 to 16:30

Education, Training and Experience:
Grade 12, plus graduation from an approved program in medical transcription, plus one (1) years’ recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to organize and prioritize.
• Ability to type 60 wpm.
• Ability to use applicable computer equipment and software.
• Knowledge of general office procedures.
