JOB SUMMARY: The Mental Health Clinician reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of the Behavioural Unit or designate within the Social Services Child and Family Prevention Program.
The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing assessment, service planning and in relation to mental health issues and for providing therapeutic intervention and support to individuals, children, youth and their families.
The Mental Health Clinician shall participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of programs and activities that enhance child, youth, and family wellness, leading to a restoration of strong families.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Social Work OR a Master’s degree in a related field with 5 years counselling experience working with indigenous children, adolescents and families.
- Must be a registered member with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers or a recognized professional regulatory body in a related field (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)).
- 1 – 2 years’ experience in working with children with behaviours and their caregivers; knowledgeable of positive intervention strategies for positive parenting and positive behaviour change.
- Experience in working with high-risk families engaged in the child welfare system.
- Current certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Mental Health First Aid is considered an asset or will be willing to obtain.
- Current certification in Understanding and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) is considered an asset or will be willing to obtain.
- Experience in collaborating with schools and other services in a multidisciplinary approach is an asset.
- Formal training in counselling theories, trauma informed care, Indigenous healing/helping methods and their practical application is considered an asset.
- Training and knowledge of evidence based mental health treatment methodologies for mental health issues and family system issues.
- Mediation, conflict resolution, crisis and de-escalation skills are an asset.
- Experience with case management and assessment skills to determine client strengths and needs is required.
- Basic computer skills knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of programs (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Teams).
