Position Summary

Interior Health is recruiting Casual Nursing Unit Assistants to join their team in Kamloops. If you hold a Nursing Unit Clerk certificate, plus one (1) year of recent related experience, a current Typing Test 50 wpm or greater (within the last 48 months) and a current valid BC Driver’s License….Apply today!

The successful candidate(s) will work rotating day shifts from 08:00 to 16:00 at South Hills Centre.

**This is a casual opportunity. Casual work has no guaranteed hours and can range from 0 to 37.5 hours per week**

The Nursing Unit Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties, transcribes and processes’ physicians’ orders, communicates with other departments and hospitals to coordinate client appointments and transportation, arranges client tests and receives results, receives visitors and answers the telephone, and prioritizes requests. Assembles and maintains client charts, arranges for client admissions and discharges, performs timekeeping functions, compiles statistics, types and distributes a variety of technical and non-technical reports and other materials utilizing computer systems and software relevant to the job, maintains an inventory of stationery supplies, and ensures filing systems are maintained

Education, Training and Experience:

Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one year’s recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current valid BC Driver’s License.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to deal with the others in a professional manner using tact and good judgment.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and the ability to operate related equipment including computer applications.
