Position Summary

Interior Health’s Tertiary Rehabilitation and Recovery Program invites applications for the role of Occupational Therapist. Interior Health’s Tertiary Rehabilitation and Recovery Program provides high-level of care, treatment and rehabilitation in a home-like, flexible, and interactive community setting. We are looking for a knowledgeable Occupational Therapist with Mental Health experience to identify and assess occupational performance issues important to the client while utilizing an evidence-based approach.

An inter-disciplinary support team of professionals will provide core mental health services, including continuous assessment, treatment, and support for clients with mental illness who may benefit from the services of this facility. This team consists of Social workers, Dietitians, Team Lead (nursing), and Life Skill Workers. As well the Psychiatrists are involved weekly in the care planning for every client at rounds and during client goal setting meetings.

As the Occupational Therapist, you will work independently and collaboratively as part of the team providing inpatient occupational therapy services including assessment, treatment planning and implementation, program planning, consultation, equipment prescription and education of clients and/or their caregivers to promote functional independence and enable the client to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes. Reporting to the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Leader, you will draw upon your ability to implement occupational therapy services utilizing diverse intervention approaches by carrying out the plan, engaging the client in activities associated with occupational roles and the client’s goals, assessing and modifying the implementation, and identifying completion criteria to promote, develop, maintain and/or restore occupational potential. It is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the organization and the overall goals of the Tertiary Rehabilitation and Recovery Program.

This position is to provide coverage until September 2021, or the return of incumbent. It could lead to other Occupational Therapist opportunities in the Kamloops area. Days of work are Monday to Friday with weekends and statutory holidays off. Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Graduation from a recognized occupational therapy program.
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC). Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or British Columbia Society of Occupational Therapists.
  • Valid BC Driver’s license.

  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.
  • Management: Demonstrated ability to organize work, set objectives and establish priorities. Manages time and resources, implements activities to promote cooperation among the interdisciplinary team, supervises responsibilities of others, and collaborates across disciplines.
  • Leadership: Promotes staff morale, engagement, and risk-taking. Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
  • Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
