The incumbent will report to the Director of Public Policy, the Research and Public Policy Officer plays a key role in achieving the Government Relations (GR) Hub mandate and goals. This position supports the Director by researching, analyzing, briefing, and reporting on specific issues and topics as identified, tracking federal, provincial and territorial legislative activities, and other related support as needed, such as logistical support and assisting preparation efforts for stakeholder meetings.
In this role, you will:
- Follow federal, provincial and territorial legislative agendas and relevant committee meetings to gather information and keep track of key studies and reports relevant to the CRC’s mandate and interests.
- Help to identify key dates for feedback and consultation for federal policies and programs.
- Assist in the preparation and conduct of stakeholder meetings, including information gathering, creating key messages and other relevant documents.
- Prepare briefing notes and research documents on priority topics for internal and external audiences.
- Support logistics for CRC working groups, such as maintaining e-mail contact lists and distribution of meeting material.
- Maintain relevant databases and knowledge banks for the public policy related initiatives.
- Provide timely public policy support in the context of a domestic or international emergency response.
- Collaborate to fulfill the agreed objectives, needs and expectations of the GR Hub and foster teamwork through a professional exchange of experiences and expertise that can be transferred to other areas of work.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Law, International Relations, Development, Political Science, Communications or related field) or a combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two years of job-related experience.
- Experience in managing multiple and often sensitive files and data.
- Ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
- Experience in research and creation of research documents and briefing notes.
- Previous work experience with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an asset.
- Stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of legislative and committee functions.
- Policy development cycle and consultation processes.
- Knowledge of and capacity to communicate the impact of humanitarian work.
- Knowledge of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and/ or international humanitarian work a strong asset.
- Strong research, analytical, writing and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Able to connect and engage with a range of audiences.
- Able to function well in high-pressure situations with competing priorities.
- Resilience and adaptability to changing circumstances and an evolving environment.
- Written and oral fluency in English is required. French language skills are an asset.
- This position may be performed remotely or a combination of in-office and remote.
- May include long to moderate hours sitting and using computers and office equipment.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours on short notice.
- Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions.
- This position may require domestic travel to attend conferences, workshops and meetings as required.
