Position Summary

The Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) is responsible for the coordination of day to day operations and quality patient care within the designated clinical area of the Operating Room Department. This position supports the seamless movement of patients through the healthcare system and in accessing appropriate resources. The PCC supervises as well as serves as a role model and a resource to staff for clinical decision-making, clinical assessments of patients and in the counseling and education of families. Reviews, analyses and makes recommendations on the development of administrative systems such as policies, procedures and standards of patient care, adequate staffing levels, and a continuous quality improvement environment. Liaises with the interdisciplinary team for identification, coordination and efficient utilization of resources as well as plans for staff educational needs.

Shuswap Lake General Hospital (SLGH) is a newly renovated 43-bed, Level 2 Community Hospital located in Salmon Arm, between Kamloops and Revelstoke, which services the surrounding population of approximately 37,000 people. This hospital offers a 24-hour new Emergency Department with a registered nurse triage, laboratory and Radiology (X-ray), Surgical, Acute Care beds, Ambulatory and Outpatient Care, Obstetrical Care and Diagnostic/Paramedical Services. Additional features include three operating rooms, a modern computed tomography (CT), Echocardiography, Level 2 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with three beds, and visiting clinics that include Orthopedics, Urology, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics. Surgical services provided at SLGH are general surgery, ortho, gynecology, cystoscopy and endoscopy.

Shifts are scheduled during the Day, Monday to Friday with weekends off. We offer an exceptional employer-paid benefits package including dental and prescription coverage, group life, and extensive extended health plan, plus up to four weeks’ vacation after your first year of employment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

• Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of Perioperative nursing, three years of recent related clinical experience in the assigned practice environment and two years recent supervisory and teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

• Current CPR certification required.
