Policy Analyst – Northern Superior Region

Full-time term position until June 7, 2024, with the possibility of extension
Benefits package after successfully completing 3 months of employment
Reporting to the Northern Superior Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief, the position is responsible for providing analysis on a wide range of government related policy for the Anishinabek Nation and for monitoring issues of concern and offering technical support and advocacy as required for the Northern Superior Region.
- Minimum two years’ experience working in a First Nation, specifically with analyzing public policy and producing briefing notes, reports, and recommendations;
- Working knowledge of federal and provincial governments and First Nation governments;
- Degree or Diploma in public administration or related field (a combination of experience and education may be considered);
- Ability to work remotely with reliable internet access if required;
- Willingness and ability to travel may be required in this position;
- Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin or willingness to learn is an asset; and
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and be insurable.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent writing skills, including the ability to review and interpret meeting materials, reports, briefings, and legislation;
- Exhibit professional attitudes and behavior; and
- Exceptional computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office).
- Planning, developing, and implementing recommendations as directed by the Northern Superior Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief;
- Supporting the Northern Superior Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief at meetings as requested, developing speaking notes, briefing notes, analyzing information, and sharing information with the Director of Policy, Political Office;
- Assisting the Northern Superior Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief with various tasks related to the portfolios and region;
- Coordinating and hosting meetings as required and working with Corporate Services and the Political Office for regional meetings; and
- Collaborating with the Northern Superior Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief to effectively manage priorities and workload.
