The Program Coordinator, Indigenous Programs, will be responsible for coordinating the development of a comprehensive and culturally responsive inSTEM (Indigenous Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program for Indigenous youth who would participate in for-credit land camps and in-school land-based courses to gain high school credits. Working under the direction of the Manager, Indigenous Relations & Supports this exciting opportunity will use your experience and insight to develop Indigenous STEM curriculum that is responsive to the needs of Indigenous youth in the Greater Edmonton Region and that will enable Indigenous youth to emerge with renewed pride in their Indigenous identities and unique and distinct perspectives. This important role also involves a high-degree of Indigenous community collaboration develop next-step opportunities for Indigenous youth as interns or other leadership opportunities.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Administrative functions for the successful operations of NorQuest inSTEM programs including weekend clubs, workshops & summer camps administration, volunteer management, parent communications
- Oversee the hiring, training, supervising and scheduling of seasonal staff.
- Responsible for fall and winter program logistics (program set-up, staff hiring and supervision, materials, room bookings, etc.).
- Research, develop and update inSTEM school workshop curriculum that aligns with the Alberta school curriculum.
- Develop tools and resources to help benefit the camp and to increase the success and smooth running of NorQuest’s inSTEM programming.
- Be part of a team of staff and required to listen and participate in discussions with other staff members and the manager.
- Attend and be prepared for each day of camp.
- Flexibility to be available during camp hour or after hours when necessary.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A diploma/degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- An understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Land Based Learning Principles as it relates to Indigenous communities.
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person.
- Experience working with youth.
WHAT MAKES YOU A DIFFERENCE MAKER
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook), electronic database systems, PowerPoint presentations.
- A passion for keeping organized and staying on top of daily tasks.
- Specialized knowledge, specifically related to Indigenous approaches, research, and Indigenous environments.
- Demonstrated capacity for attention to detail and program administration.
- Knowledge of historic and ongoing influences and barriers affecting employment of Indigenous peoples.
- Experience working with a broad cross-section of Indigenous community organizations and/or Indigenous stakeholders.
SALARY: $47,332 – $61,518 reflective upon what you bring. AKA your education and experience. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension. This position is not currently eligible to participate in our extended health benefit or pension programs.
