Position Summary

We are presently seeking new team members to join our Recreation Therapy Department at Noric House in Vernon. A strong candidate will have completed a course or certificate from a recognized recreation therapy program and hold a Class IV BC Driver’s License.

Working within a client centered model, the Recreation Therapy Worker works as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of an established Recreation Therapy Program.

As the Recreation Therapy Worker you will be primarily working with geriatric residents and short stay clients. This position plans programs and assists in getting residents to/from their programs. Staff go on outings with the residents, facilitate groups specific to the needs of the residents (i.e. social, physical, spiritual, etc.), and one-to-one programs. The Recreation Therapy Worker completes leisure assessments on clients and work alongside volunteers.

Noric House, located in Vernon, embodies a resident-centered philosophy designed to support residents’ choices, help people function at their highest level, and provide the best quality of life possible. This facility has 85 residential, single bed-accommodations with ceiling track lifts in all rooms. They are broken out into 4 communities of 19-22 residents each. There is also a large dining room for meals, fenced patios for resident use, and a recreation therapist on site with a monthly calendar of activities including seasonal outings such as picnics, boat trips, drives, music, and both small and large group programs.

Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Shifts may be available Days or Evenings. Casual employees will receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, you have the option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Grade 12
  • Completion of a recognized recreation course(s) plus two year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid class 4 vehicle license.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
