Position Summary

Interior Health is seeking applicants for an exciting new opportunity as a Health Care Support Worker in Home Support! If you are interested in an opportunity in Home Support but do not currently hold BC Care Aide Registration, then this opportunity may be for you!

This opportunity is for a funded training path way toward becoming a Home Support Health Care Assistant through Okanagan College Health Care Assistant program. Successful candidates must gain admission to the October 18, 2021 intake ; meeting all school admission criteria of the HCA program, successfully complete the program by the end of the term, gain registration as HCA through BC HCA Registry, and return service to Interior Health upon successfully completing the program. The funded training is full-time with short periods of work. There are multiple training positions within Vernon Community (Home Health).

Within the Health Career Access Program, successful program applicants must start as a health care support worker before advancing to a health care assistant position. Health Care Support Workers (HCSW) will be enrolled in a modular Health Care Assistant (HCA) training program at a partnering post-secondary institution. The modular training program will be delivered by public post-secondary institutions over the course of 12-18 months.

The Health Care Support Worker will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse or another regulated healthcare professional, performs a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare supports to clients and families home settings in accordance with the established care plan and safety requirements.

Please note that the HCSWs will be required to sign a 12-month return of service agreement to work as a HCA upon completion of the training in recognition of the educational investment.

Orientation for this position will begin at the home site on October 4, 2021. It is important to note that you must have a computer with access to internet and be able to start the online learning modules.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:
• Grade 10, including successful completion of English 10 or equivalency.

• Valid Class V BC Driver’s License. Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to deal with others effectively.

• Ability to organize work.

• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

• Ability to operate related equipment.
