Senior Policy Analyst – Children, Families, and Social Development

Description:

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and highly motivated individual who will be responsible for researching, writing information and statistics, and conducting analysis relating to the First Nations Income Assistance program and related Social Development programs. The Senior Policy Analyst will provide recommendations for policy development, interpretation and application of Income Assistance and related Social Development programs. The incumbent will also be responsible for the achievement of defined work plans and objectives aimed at supporting and advancing AFN’s national advocacy positions, interests and strategies related to First Nations Income Assistance Program and Social Development programs.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess:

• An undergraduate degree in social sciences, political science, or a related field of study with a minimum of 5 years of relevant senior experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience related to First Nations Income Assistance and/or Social Development programs
• Significant knowledge of the First Nations Income Assistance program and Social Development programs available to First Nations, policies, practices, and challenges
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the intersectionality of poverty, disability, race, gender, remoteness, and socioeconomic factors in a First Nations context
• Advanced communication skills, verbal and written, with attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex ideas and information to diverse audiences
• Demonstrated ability to understand and conduct research, analyze statistical data, and interpret and communicate findings in a clear and concise way to a variety of stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience working with First Nations, federal, provincial, territorial, northern, urban, and international governments, and officials
• Advanced interpersonal skills, teamwork, and judgement
• Superior time management, planning and organizational skills
• English is the working language; however, the ability to work in both official languages (English/French) are an asset, as is knowledge of an Indigenous language(s)
