Position Summary

Kelowna General Hospital’s Patient-Family Counselling Department is presently hiring and looking for new casual team members to join their team.

Patient-Family Counseling Services provide support to inpatients and their families who are having difficulties with managing or coping with the impact of illness. Services can include referral to community resources. Applicants who are successful will also have opportunity to work in community providing social work care, and the position supports multiple service areas.

Social Workers provide comprehensive assessment, care planning and treatment coordination for designated clients and their families. They provide direct psychosocial care, counseling and group work, system navigation and advocacy, education and linkage to relevant specialized complex care resources while facilitating client self-management. Interior Health Social Workers are responsible for providing and developing social work services to maintain or improve the health and social well-being and functioning of identified populations.

Successful candidates will have a human caring and relationship-centred practice philosophy with ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Shift types are days; shift times are 08:00 to 16:00, and 08:30 to 16:30, however, social work services are 7 days a week to service multiple programs with varying hours of operation.

Education, Training and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
• Two years recent related experience in a healthcare setting working with medically complex clients with concurrent disorders, or a combination of education, training and experience.
• Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
• Current valid BC driver’s license.

**Knowledge of the Health Care (Consent) and Care Facilities (Admissions) Act and the Adult Guardianship Act would be an asset.
