We are looking for a Specialized Equipment Technician who will collaborate with the Supervisor, Specialized Equipment to assist the effective operation of the Health Equipment Loans Program (Specialized Equipment) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This includes the proper and thorough rebuilding, repair, service and maintenance of specialized equipment.

In this role you will:

  • Perform thorough examination, rebuilding, repair, service and maintenance of specialized health care equipment.
  • Maintain records on loans, returns, inventory, statistics, equipment repairs in accordance with HELP program procedures and policies.
  • Maintain inventory records, compile monthly statistics, and order all new stock equipment for Specialized Equipment Program.
  • Generate loans for newly recycled equipment; update description of equipment in the computer inventory and inputting new barcodes into the inventory system as needed.
  • Support Community-HELP program with cleaning/disinfecting tasks as well as maintenance of equipment as required.
  • Assist all technical staff with various responsibilities within the workshop environment.
  • Support other Red Cross initiatives, as needed, to provide for a coordinated team effort to meeting the needs of the vulnerable in the community.

What we are looking for:

  • The minimum qualifications for this position is a high school diploma, relevant mechanical experience, and a minimum of two (2) years of safe driving experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to provide documentation of appropriate mechanical training courses.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting capabilities (documented completion of mechanical training courses is ideal).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract is required.
  • Able to do heavy lifting (50lbs to 100lbs).
  • Demonstrated experience in a work order shop environment (e.g., vehicle repair and maintenance) is an asset.
  • Experience with seniors, cognitively impaired and physically disabled clients is an asset.
  • Computer skills in inventory control systems is a definite asset.
  • Previous WHIMIS and Occupational Health and Safety training is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • A satisfactory EPIC and vulnerable sector check are required.
  • Employees and Volunteers at every level are responsible for safe work practices and to adhere to practices outlined in their applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for this position and operation (the CRC will however adhere to its duty to accommodate those who are unable to be fully vaccinated for a reason related to a human right protected ground).
