Vaccine Clinic Assistant-Casual Contract

ONWA MANDATE

The Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) is a not-for-profit organization that empowers and supports Indigenous women and their families in the province of Ontario. ONWA encourages the participation of Indigenous women in the development of Federal, Provincial, Municipal/ Local government policies that impact their lives and ensure issues affecting Indigenous women and their families are heard at key government tables.

ONWA is committed to providing services that strengthen communities and guarantees the preservation of Indigenous culture, identity, art, language, and heritage. Ending violence against Indigenous women and their families and ensuring equal access to justice, education, health, environmental stewardship, and economic development, sits at the cornerstone of the organization. ONWA insists on social and cultural well – being for all Indigenous women and their families, so that all women, regardless of tribal heritage may live their best lives.

SCOPE:

The Vaccine Clinic Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative, customer service, and operational support for the ONWA’s COVID-19 community immunization clinic. The vaccine clinic assistant will be responsible for client registration/ discharge, screening, data entry, stocking, cleaning, distributing supplies/ equipment, and monitoring community members to ensure safety and compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A post-secondary diploma/ certificate in health sciences/ social services ideally with 1-3 years of successful working experience in providing operational support and data entry in a community health care setting and/ or in a customer service field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to read and understand database records, with the ability to enter accurate database information
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, ceremony and connecting Community Members to cultural practices that can be used as support.
  • Awareness of the recent, historical, and intergenerational trauma that Indigenous women and their families may have experienced.
  • Understanding of the principles of cultural trauma-informed care and wise practices in providing trauma-informed care.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively.
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable, punctual and ability to multitask.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Not-For Profit Organizations
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, data entry and general office equipment.
  • Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage and valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.
  • Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.

KEY CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Inter-cultural Competency Informed – Understands to incorporate a personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness, and implementation of ONWA’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
  • Indigenous Gender-Based Analysis Informed – Understands to incorporate an intersectional approach to gender, race and discrimination and subsequent intergenerational impacts affecting Indigenous women and their families.
  • Trauma-Based Practice Informed – Understands to incorporate a trauma-informed approach to recognize and respond to all forms of trauma and the necessity of supporting Indigenous women in a culture of tradition and safety in her healing journey.
  • She is Wise Leadership Informed – Understands to incorporate the Four Agreements within daily responsibilities and combined with ONWA’s cultural teachings contribute to the empowerment and leadership of Indigenous women within their communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES – SPECIFIC:

  1. Ability to provide culturally appropriate care to community members accessing the vaccination clinic site.
  2. Assist with physical set up and take down of the vaccination clinic and preparation of materials needed for vaccine administration.
  3. Pre-screening of community members and staff accessing the clinic as per Public Health screening requirements.
  4. Ensure patient flow of the vaccination clinic.
  5. Maintain provincial immunization database for immunization and complete data entry from community members.
  6. Assist nurses by providing medical supplies and documentation.
  7. Monitor community members in recovery area and provide guidance and teaching on follow up.
  8. Sanitize and disinfect recovery area.
  9. Schedule follow up appointments.
  10. Work collaboratively with all team members, community services and supports.

  1. Promote the program within the community.
  2. To adhere to professionalism in always representing the organization and maintain good communications.

  1. Adhere to the Policies and Procedures as set by the ONWA.
  2. To network and promote ONWA and all ONWA related programs.
  3. Always maintain professionalism.
  4. The completion of functions outlined in the description and the achievement of goals set to a high level.
  5. Attendance and conduct at work according to the requirements of the Association’s Personnel Policy.
  6. Adherence to the Code of Ethics, and positive relationship building.

AUTHORITY:

To execute duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Vaccination Clinic Assistant will be directly accountable to the Clinic Lead for the proper completion of the functions outlined in the job description.
