MCDONALDS CORNERS, ONTARIO, OCTOBER 17, 2009–On behalf of the Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Mr. Scott Reid, Member of Parliament for Lanark, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, today unveiled a Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaque commemorating the production of maple products as an event of national historic significance.

Canada’s most precious natural resource – fresh water – is in jeopardy due to the effects of climate change and growing water demand, according to a new WWF-Canada report released today called Canada’s Rivers at Risk: Environmental Flows and Canada’s Freshwater Future. The report uses a scientific approachthat focuses on the importance of water flow to examine the health of 10 Canadian rivers and reveals that some are dangerously close to drying up. It concludes that we must value our fresh water differently and take immediate action to protect it.
