May 14, 2012…Calgary, Alberta (Traditional territory of Treaty No.7)… A Gemini award winning actress can add another title to her accolades of achievements: Best Actress through the Alberta Film and Television Awards.

Calgary born and raised, Michelle Thrush took home the award this past weekend for her role as Gail Stoney in the award winning television series, Blackstone.“I’ve always been taught by the elders that our stories are contained within the land and our songs are contained within the earth,” said Michelle Thrush during her acceptance speech. “Every single time that Alberta makes another film, we’re waking up those stories. I’m very honoured to be among that group of storytellers.”

Michelle Thrush has over twenty years of experience working professionally in Film, Television and Theatre. The Indigenous actress has over forty credits in the entertainment industry and has won numerous awards and special recognitions. In 2011, she won a Gemini for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role on the hit dramatic series, Blackstone.

Ms. Thrush is originally from the Neekanet First Nation in Saskatchewan and began acting at an early age. Calgary is where she calls home with her two daughters.
