A Grant For A New Beginning At Chiefswood National Historic Site
08/29/07 – A morning ceremony complete with representation from Elected Council, members of Provincial Parliament and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, made the announcement of a $107,800 grant for new initiatives to take place at the Chiefswood Museum National Historic Site.
Established in 1963, Chiefswood Museum National Historic Site is the birthplace and childhood home of E. Pauline Johnson, a celebrated Mohawk poetess. The historic house museum provides a unique glimpse
into the Johnson family history. In one house, visitors experience a peaceful ambiance, creative atmosphere and cultural exchange activities representative of life in the late 19th Century.Some of the initiatives to happen at the site range from: hiring a Special Events Coordinator to help with the 2nd Annual ‘At Husking Time’ Women’s Conference and assist with marketing and promotional signage.
“This grant will ensure we’re on the map in the heart of Southern Ontario,” Curator Paula Whitlow speaking to the impact of what this grant will mean for the Chiefswood Museum National Historic Site, in closing Whitlow also comments, “We are thankful for the Ontario Foundation’s commitment to the values of history and heritage.”
