Several well-known Inuit musicians are among the nominees for the 2023 Juno Awards.
The full list of nominees for the annual awards that celebrate Canadian music was announced Tuesday.
Susan Aglukark, originally from Arviat, is nominated in the Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year category for her 2022 album, The Crossing.
At last year’s Junos ceremony, Aglukark received the Humanitarian Award in recognition of the work she has done as founder of the Arctic Rose Foundation charity, an organization that supports Indigenous-led, arts-based after school programs and other cultural creative projects for Indigenous youth.
Throat singer Tanya Tagaq is no stranger to the award scene. The multi-Juno winner from Cambridge Bay is nominated in the Alternative Album of the Year category for her 2022 record, Tongues.
