Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation achieves FMB’s highest level of financial management certification

AHTAHKAKOOP CREE NATION – Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation in Saskatchewan recently achieved Financial Management System (FMS) Certification from the First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB). This certification is a significant milestone for the Nation, affirming that Ahtahkakoop meets rigorous international standards in financial performance, management practices, and accountability.

“This achievement is a testament to the strength, discipline, and transparency of our financial management practices,” says Larry Ahenakew, Chief of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation. “We are committed to building a prosperous and self-sustaining future for our members. This certification is not only a badge of excellence, but a shield against doubt and misinformation. Our staff worked diligently together with the Finance Department to achieve this enormous undertaking, and this is certainly a proud and momentous occasion for our Nation.”

Ahtahkakoop welcomes the many benefits of FMS Certification, including enhanced access to capital, recognition of the Nation’s governance frameworks and long-term sustainability, and increased community trust as citizens and partners recognize that financial stewardship is a top priority.

The Nation’s recent community development projects include the Cree Nations Treatment Centre, a new youth centre, sewer system, school expansion, and Urgent Care Centre.

Chief Ahenakew says FMS Certification confirms what the Nation’s leadership and community members have long known: Ahtahkakoop is a financially strong, strategically managed, and forward-thinking Nation.

The FMB congratulates Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on the significant achievement of FMS Certification.
