People wearing orange shirts are expected to flood Boulevard Lake this Saturday, on National Truth and Reconciliation Day for the second annual Honouring Our Children Run.
The run in Thunder Bay supports the Mazinaajim Children’s Foundation and honours the Indigenous children lost to residential schools as well as those who survived and their families.
Natalie Paavola is the director of health and wellness services at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care and the founder of the Honouring Our Children run. A fitness enthusiast, Paavola wants to encourage as many people as possible to engage in wellness and better their health.
“Running is my medicine,” she said in a news release.
“It’s how I connect to the land and community and brings me mental and spiritual healing.”
Paavola is running this Saturday in honour of her father, who attended the McIntosh Residential School.
