The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs express condolences to the family and friends of Chief Tma Francis and to the community of Paqtnkek First Nation.

“Our hearts are heavy and with great sadness we say nmultis to a fellow leader and incredibly special man,” said Chief Annie Bernard-Daisley, Co-Chair of the Assembly.  “Chief Tma Francis was a wonderful person, a pleasure to work alongside and will be missed as a member of the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs.”

After three years on council, Francis was appointed by his fellow councillors to assume the role of interim Chief in August 2020, and then officially elected by the community to the position in November 2021.

“Chief Francis was a dynamic leader who was passionate about seeing success for his growing community,” said Chief Sidney Peters, Co-Chair of the Assembly. “We offer condolences and express our deepest sympathy to Chief Francis’ family and many friends, and we keep the community of Paqtnkek in our thoughts and prayers as we all mourn this profound loss.”
