Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians Elders Gathering 2013
For Immediate Release:
August 19, 2013
Batchewana, ON – The Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians (AIAI) is honored to announce that Batchewana First Nation of Ojibways will host the 2013 AIAI Elders Gathering. The annual event will take place on August 20, 21 and 22, and is expected to draw participants from AIAI member Nations as well as other local First Nation communities.
The theme for this year’s Elders Gathering is “Ancestors through Elders, Giving Rise to Our Future”
Each year AIAI’s Elders Gathering brings together First Nation Elders from the Association’s member Nations. This event is unique because Elders from different First Nations have the opportunity to make new and meet old friends; to share experiences; to pass on traditional knowledge; and of course, to have a good time.
This year, elders will participate in various workshops that will include cultural teachings, residential schools and the War of 1812. Association Grand Chief Gordon Peters, Deputy Grand Chief Denise Stonefish and Batchewana’s Chief Dean Sayers will each offer opening comments to the Elders on Day One of the Gathering.
The AIAI is a mandated as a political territorial organization to defend and enhance the Aboriginal and Treaty rights of its eight member Firs Nations. Visit them online at www.aiai.on.ca, https://twitter.com/aiai_comms, www.facebook.com/aiai.pto, www.youtube.com/user/AIAIAdmin.
